IRAs, RMDs, and QCDs - Oh, My! The Ins and Outs of Giving Generously Through a Traditional IRA

IRAs, RMDs, and QCDs - Oh, My! The Ins and Outs of Giving Generously Through a Traditional IRA

The Methodist Foundation for Arkansas is honored to be in partnership with local churches, individuals, and institutions to support Methodist ministries in our state. Part of our job is to help people understand the tax laws in ways that might benefit their local church, a Methodist institution, or the overall work of the Foundation.

A permanent tax law enacted in late December of 2015 allows donors and friends to revisit their IRAs and consider the possibility of donating “qualified charitable distributions” directly from their IRA to a non-profit. This would include their local church, a Methodist institution, and the Foundation. Making a gift to the Foundation could be done in a way that gifts are directed to benefit local churches, institutions, or the Foundation.

During this zoom we will learn from Tyler Curtis from the Kansas Methodist Foundation. Tyler is a native Kansan. While he was born and raised in Liberal, Tyler is proud to call Emporia “home.” He joined the Kansas Methodist Foundation staff as the Chief Development Officer in August 2021, then bringing more than 20 years of experience in education and development to the Foundation. In his role, Tyler serves individuals, churches and related organizations through donor development and estate planning.

Tyler Curtis

Prior to working with the Foundation, Tyler worked in University Advancement, Alumni Relations, Foundation and Corporate Relations, and Governmental Affairs at Emporia State University. His experience also includes secondary education and administration, where he served as a teacher and principal. He is active in the Emporia community, having served as a past president of Emporia Main Street, current chairman of the SOS board of directors, past member of the Emporia Granada Theatre Board of Directors, and is a graduate of Leadership Emporia. Tyler serves several other nonprofits via Curtis Consulting. Tyler is also a member and vice president of Emporia Enterprises, a land bank for industrial development.

Tyler holds a Bachelors of Education and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from ESU as well as an Executive Certificate in Transformational Non-Profit Leadership from Notre Dame.
